Role Summary
Wave Media Agency is looking to hire a Social Media Manager to run the social channels for a New York-based professional action sports team. You'll build a vibrant community around the team's athletes, competitions and culture, and push the boundaries of how fans experience action sports online. The ideal candidate lives and breathes action sports (skate, BMX, moto, snow and beyond), knows the athletes and the culture inside and out, and has a proven history of running sports, team, or athlete social accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day management of the team's social channels (TikTok, Instagram & Facebook), producing, editing, and publishing a high volume of short-form video content.
  • Source standout tricks, runs, slams, viral moments, and trending topics from competitions, training sessions, and athlete channels.
  • Build athlete-led storytelling (profiles, hero storylines, behind-the-scenes access, rivalries, progression) that turns the team's athletes into personalities fans follow.
  • Create timely, compelling edits and recurring content series that align with current social trends, platform best practices, and the competition calendar.
  • Apply social-native editing techniques (on-screen text, captions, trending sounds, transitions) to maximize virality and audience engagement.
  • Speak authentically to core action sports communities while making content accessible to new and casual fans, with a distinctly New York voice.
  • Collaborate with athletes, team staff, partners, and internal content teams to build a programming calendar tied to events, athlete news, and local and cultural moments.
  • Integrate sponsor and partner deliverables into content in a way that feels native to the feed.
  • Capture, clip, and publish live during competition days, including weeknights and weekends.
  • Shoot mobile content on-site at competitions, training sessions, and fan activations; travel as required.
  • Manage community engagement across comments, DMs, and collaborations with athletes and creators.
  • Track performance (engagement, shares, saves, watch time, follower growth), report on growth, and use insights to cut weak formats and double down on what works.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of and passion for action sports, including their athletes, history, and culture.
  • Proven experience producing and editing short-form video content for social media.
  • History of growing a sports, team, or athlete social account across multiple platforms through community engagement and distinctive editing styles.
  • Proficiency in video editing software is a must (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, CapCut, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of social media trends and platform algorithms, particularly for sports content.
  • Comfortable shooting high-quality mobile content in fast-moving, live event environments.
  • Creative mindset with a sharp eye for viral moments and storytelling opportunities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
